Meet the Principal, Dr. Joshua Dawkins

As principal of Dorman High School, I welcome you to a new school year filled with opportunity, growth, and meaningful connections. I am excited to continue the proud tradition of excellence at Dorman while building strong relationships with our students, families, staff, and community. At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to putting students first and to creating a school environment where every student feels valued, supported, and prepared for success inside and outside the classroom. Our administration, faculty, and staff are dedicated to providing a high-quality education through engaging instruction, strong character development, and a safe, welcoming environment where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

At Dorman High School, we believe education is most successful when schools and families partner. Building relationships with families and maintaining open communication help us better support students as they prepare for life beyond high school. Our goal is not only to help students achieve academic success but also to help them develop the leadership skills, responsibility, work ethic, and character needed to thrive in society, in their future careers, and in their families. I encourage parents and guardians to stay actively involved in their child’s education and to continue sharing ideas, concerns, and recommendations as we work together to create the best possible experience for our students.

I also encourage our students to fully invest in their high school experience by taking ownership of their education and engaging in athletics, clubs, fine arts, service opportunities, and other extracurricular activities. Some of the greatest lessons learned in high school come from relationships, teamwork, leadership, and service to others. Dorman is more than a school to me. It is a community that cares deeply about helping students discover their strengths, build confidence, and prepare for their future.

As a proud Dorman alum, I feel truly honored and grateful to serve the wonderful students, families, faculty, staff, and community of this amazing high school. I am excited for an incredible school year ahead as we work together to nurture a culture full of strong relationships, student success, family partnerships, and the proud Cavalier spirit.
