All students are required for graduation to complete one course that satisfies the SC computer science requirement. These courses are: IBA I, Google Applications, Information Technology & Image Editing (with a parent waiver).
 
 
Listed below are the courses in the Business & Technology Department:
 
Accounting I
This course is designed to help students develop skills necessary for the highly technical interaction between accounting and business, to develop an understanding of the steps of the accounting cycle as applied to several different kinds of business operations, and to develop an understanding of accounting concepts, principles, and practices. Use of the computer in simulated activities gives the student an opportunity to see the advantage of technology in accounting procedures.

Accounting 2
Prerequisite: Accounting 1
This course expands the student’s understanding of accounting subsystems and develops an understanding of various methods of internal control procedures. The student develops competence in using subsidiary ledges, in preparing financial statements, and in performing end-of-period procedures. The student will demonstrate the use of accounting principals through the use of computer software and simulated activities.

Business Finance
Prerequisite: Accounting 1
This course is designed to provide students with a foundation in corporate business finance concepts and applications including fundamentals, financial environment, management planning, maintenance and analysis of financial records, long and short term financial activities, financial business activities, financial institutions and banking services, consumer credit, business insurance, technology and financial management, and international finance.

Digital Desktop Publishing (Intro to Graphic Design)
Prerequisite: IBA 1, Info Tech or Google Apps
This course uses desktop publishing software to produce professional looking documents such as flyers, bulletins, proposals, brochures, letterhead, business cards, greeting cards, forms, handouts and more. Students will learn how to edit photographs and clip art to be incorporated in these documents. Importing scanned and digital files into the desktop document is included. Students will develop individual Desktop Publishing Portfolios.

Digital Multimedia

Google Applications
Prerequisite: Keyboarding or proficiency exam
This course is designed to introduce the student to the many applications that Google offers including IGoogle, Google Docs, Sites, Earth, Groups, Maps, News, Sketchup, Calendar, Picasa, Blogger and Talk. Students will be prepared for learning and working in the 21st century through communication and collaboration tools. This course will count towards the computer state requirement

Information Technology
This course introduces the basic concepts in computer and information technology. The areas of instruction covered include computer hardware, software, Internet, and network systems. Upon successful completion of this course, a student should be able to successfully enter any one of the Information Technology Cluster majors. This course will count towards the computer state requirement.

Image Editing
Prerequisite: Parent Waiver, IBA 1, Google Apps, Info Tech
This course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills needed to utilize digital imaging software in editing and designing images and graphics. Students learn basic computer functions as well as file sharing, digital scanning and digital photography. This course will satisfy the SC computer science requirement.

Integrated Business Applications 1
Prerequisite: Keyboarding or proficiency exam
Students will learn to format and produce essential documents using integrated software: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Students will study about the various components of computer systems, the impact of computers on businesses and individuals, and ethical and security issues. This course will satisfy the SC computer science requirement.

Integrated Business Applications 2
Prerequisite: IBA I
This course of study is designed to teach the student advanced computer concepts as related to processing data into useful information needed in business situations. Word processing, database, presentation and spreadsheet software will be utilized. This course prepares students for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification if they so choose.

Personal Finance
This course is designed to introduce the student to the basic financial literacy skills which includes budgeting, obtaining credit, maintaining checking accounts, analyzing the basic elements of finance, computing payroll, recording business transactions, and applying computer operations to financial management.

Web Design 1
Prerequisite: Google Apps, Info Tech or IBA I
This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to design Web pages using HTML and Dreamweaver. Students will develop skills in designing, implementing, and maintaining a Web site using authoring tools.
